Chocolate Ganache Hearts

My hopes were high. My ambitions were big. My plans were tight. My petit fours were going to be elegant, cute and sexy, just like the girl I was envious of in highschool. I was going to make four. Four petit fours. Fitting, no?

All this in pursuit for this month's Sugar High Friday, hosted by Jeanne of Cooksister!. A worthy pursuit! After I was done however, I must admit that I was tempted to announce never to attempt petit fours again, such a disaster as I had. I am not one to say never, though. So I'll leave that open.

In the end I think I became a bit overwhelmed. Same day I had fruit mince to bottle, and on request cheesey scones AND rhubarb crumble cupcakes. My timing was not the best. In the end, the best looking plate were these chocolate ganache hearts. Simply two layers of chocolate sponge with ganache poured over the top to produce a glistening layered effect. The ganache was definitely the tastiest bit about it and I literally had to stop myself from diving into it. I should have just re-made these as a petite four, they were much more impressive!

you're right - petits fours work best when there's a variety of them... but i was too pressed for time as well. your ganache hearts look absolutely gorgeous, though, well done!

Any chocolate worth diving into is alright by me. Petit Fours definitely not to be made in a rush. Part of their appeal, to me, is finding enough time to dedicate to them. Then they can be made stresslessly and it is much more fun.

Most of my cooking I am doing a dozen other things at the same time so it is nice to dedicate some time specifically to one thing for a change.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself - these are great! I do agree that petit fours are not for the impatient, or the person tryign to concentrate on five different things at once... but they are worth it in the end! Thanks for joining in :-)

Hey guys! Thank you all for your kind comments! I'm glad you liked although they were quite easy to do!

Pille - you got me on this one... indeed they are Maldon salt flakes on top... I added a pinch into the cadbury's chocolate aswell - and it did lighten the flavour by a touch! I thought they looked quite pretty on top, no?
